Salinas Construction Inc. was brought in as key subcontractor for constructing approximately 58,000 CY of 13” roadway PCCP. Salinas’ work takes place in 4 unique phases with the first phase completed in October 2017 of approximately 24,000 CY. This roadway PCCP is along new infrastructure realigning NB I5 through the busiest stretch of I5 in the greater Tacoma Area. Project is extremely complex and incorporates multiple new bridges and connects approximately 14 alignments in Tacoma’s Nalley Valley. Salinas in Phase 1A utilized 3 Gomaco Slipform Paving machines under 6 width configurations. This project is also one of the first to incorporate International Roughness Index (IRI) smoothness compliance, the most stringent ride specification in the developed world. Roadway sections include 8% superelevation cross slopes and up to 5% vertical curve changes making the paving even more complex. Skanska and Salinas met the Phase 1A holiday traffic turnover date which saved the project a projected 6 months of completion time.
